The following information is a brief history of Fire District #3. As new information is located, it will be added to the current information. We apologize in advance for any inaccuracies that may occur. If anyone has any information that would assist with the recreation of the history of the district, please feel free to contact the webmaster. Upon verification the information will be added.

The History of District #3
May 1978
Fire District #3 is established.  However, at this time there was no actual fire service available for the communities. 
April 1989
Fire District #3 is redistricted.  There is now a Fire District #3 and a Fire District #3A.
April 1995
Throughout Fire District #3 and #3A, there are seven (7) dry fire hydrants installed througout the communities.
March 1997
Joey Andrews is appointed as chairman of the Fire District Board (the governing body) for Fire District #3.  Upon appointment Joey Andrews completes a full Board of Commissioners.
May 1997
Mr. Andrew Richard donated one (1) acre of land on the corner of McDonald Road and Highway 113.  This land would be utilized for the District's first station, Sugartown Fire Station.
August 1997
The deed was signed for the donated land that would become Station #1.  During this same time, Mr. Robert Crosby donated one (1) acre of land on the corner of Highway 26 and Highway 1147.  This land would be utilized to the District's second station, Kipling Fire Station.
January 1998
Fire District #3 borrowed $100,000.00 for a Certificate of Indebtedness to begin the various projects needed for the district to become operational.
April 1998
The deed was signed for the donated land that would become Station #2.
May 1998
The district solicited bids for construction of the first two fire stations. 
At the same time the district completed a door to door canvassing of all residents within the local communities.  The purpose of the canvassing of approximately 1,600 residents was to obtain the demographic data required to complete the LCBDG Grant.  A special thanks to all of the ladies that participated in this monumental project.
June 1998

The construction of Station #1 and Station #2 began.  Conoco Company donated the fire truck for the district's use.

September 1998
A 15 Mill Property Tax was passed for Fire District #3A which was established for fifteen (15) years.  The construction of Station #1 and Station #2 is completed.
October 1998
Joey Andrews and Herb Shaw made a trip to Georgia to purchase the second fire truck for the district's use.
November 1998
Citgo Company donated ten (10) sets of used bunker gear to the district.
March 2001
The district received $600,000.00 from the State of Louisiana's LCBDG Grant.  This money was used for major purchases of fire protection equipment.  Special thanks goes to Senator Cain for his assistance on acquiring this grant.
September 2001
A purchase of two pumper trucks was made for use at Sugartown Fire Station and Kipling Fire Station. 
April 2003
Station #3, Longacre Fire Station, became operational.
May 2003
The district purchased the microwave tower located on the corner of Tower Lane and Highway 26 for radio communications throughout the district. 
July 2003
A Rural Grant provided a parking lot at Station #4, Dry Creek Fire Station.  This grant was presented to Chief Chris DeMaskey by Senator Cain and State Representative Herman Ray Hill.
May 2004
Fire District #3 and #3A merged back into one district and is now referred to as Fire District #3.  The majority of firefighters from Fire District #3 successfully completed a First Responder course.

September 2007

The District completed an insurance rating and received a class 6 rating. Due to lowering from a class 9 rating to a class 6 rating, the insurance rating for the district on average will save home owners $800.00-$1,000.00 per year in insurance costs.

January 2008

Jeff Brooks retires form the district after working, supporting, and overseeing the operations of the district. Jeff was with the District for 27 years. Even in his retirement, Jeff is still helping and working with district. Thanks for your service to Beauregard Parish Fire District #3.

November 2009

The District completed an insurance rating and received a class 5 rating. Due to lowering from a class 6 rating to a class 5 rating, the insurance rating for the district on average will save home owners $100.00-$500.00 per year in insurance cost.

July 2010

Completed land donation for Station 5. The new station will be located on Highway 394 west of Bundick Lake. Thanks to the Stewart family for the land donation.

April 2011

Land was cleared for Station 5
